Iqbal was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. He got his early education in a traditional maktab before going to Sialkot Mission School, where he passed his matriculation exams.

In 1897, he got his Bachelor of Arts from Government College, Lahore, and in 1899, he got his Master of Arts. He was hired as a lecturer in history, philosophy, and English at the Oriental College in Lahore.

Iqbal dreamed of Pakistan and used poetry to encourage the Muslims, especially the young people of the subcontinent, to fight against their British oppressors and demand a separate nation.

Unfortunately, he died on April 21, 1938, before his dream of a separate country for Muslims came true.
